On Thursday, July 10, Tom Morello joined Loudwire Nights to celebrate the release of his latest solo track Pretend You Remember Me.

Morello revealed that he is working on his first solo rock album, despite having made 22 albums in his career. He explained that after years of touring and honoring his past work, he felt the urge to create something new that embraces the powerful riffs of Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave, while also showcasing his songwriting.

Pretend You Remember Me is a track he described as written for these times. Morello said the song is inspired by his involvement in the ongoing immigration issues in Los Angeles, where he has been active on the streets supporting immigrant rights.

To support the song’s message, Morello partnered with The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights to raise awareness about the injustices faced by immigrants.

He emphasized his stance against violent criminals but made it clear that hard-working people seeking a better life should not be targeted. Morello stated that if anything should be deported, it should be injustice.

In addition to his music, Morello is launching a theater production titled Revolution(s), which will debut at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago later this year.

Reflecting on the influence of Rage Against the Machine, Morello noted that the band’s continued relevance during troubled times is proof that they did good work. Despite only performing 19 shows in the past 14 years, their legacy continues to resonate.
