Rockabilly legends The Stray Cats have officially announced a new U.S. tour set for fall 2025, marking their first tour dates since frontman Brian Setzer was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease.
The upcoming run will take place across October and November, signaling a long-awaited return to the stage for the trio, which includes Setzer, drummer Slim Jim Phantom, and bassist Lee Rocker. Specific tour stops and venues are expected to be announced soon.
This marks a significant moment for the band and their fans. Setzer’s health struggles had previously forced him to cancel or scale back various live performances, including solo shows, after being diagnosed with idiopathic dystonia, a condition that affects the nervous system and muscle control. The announcement of a full Stray Cats tour indicates that Setzer’s condition is currently stable enough for the demanding schedule of live touring.
Legacy of the Stray Cats
Emerging in the late 1970s, the Stray Cats brought a revival of rockabilly to mainstream audiences, blending classic 1950s sounds with punk-era attitude. Hits like Rock This Town and Stray Cat Strut helped define their legacy, earning them international acclaim and a devoted fanbase.
Their 2019 album 40, released in celebration of the band’s 40th anniversary, was a return to form and was accompanied by a successful world tour. Since then, however, their activity has been limited due to Setzer’s health.
Critical Perspective
This tour is more than just a comeback — it's a testament to resilience. Brian Setzer’s return to the stage with the Stray Cats suggests a renewed chapter for the band. Yet, it also brings into focus the challenges faced by aging artists with medical conditions, especially in a physically demanding role like Setzer’s.
While fans are no doubt thrilled by the return, expectations should be tempered by the realities of health management. Still, if the tour proceeds as planned, it could be both a triumphant celebration and an emotional milestone for the band and their audience alike.
More information about ticket sales and full tour dates will be released soon.
