Metallica, one of the greatest heavy metal bands of all time, almost had a different name. According to Ulrich, the name didn't come from within the band, but from Metal Mania magazine founder Ron Quintana. Back in the day, Quintana asked Ulrich for advice on what to name his fan magazine - Metal Mania or Metallica. Ulrich suggested Metal Mania, but decided to hold onto the name Metallica himself. Although Quintana was initially disappointed, the two remained friends. This small conversation ended up shaping the destiny of Metallica and their iconic name.
