CAM Sugar announces the release of Il Clan dei Siciliani, the complete soundtrack composed by Ennio Morricone for Henri Verneuil’s 1969 film, one of the most iconic European noirs of the sixties. The album will be available on December 5 in an exclusive physical edition on triple vinyl and double CD, and is now open for pre order. The release coincides with the anniversary of Morricone’s birth and includes eight previously unreleased tracks discovered in the historical CAM Sugar archives.
This new edition stems from the rediscovery of the original master tapes from the full recording session, preserved for decades and never heard in their entirety. The eight restored unreleased pieces are finally presented to the public for the first time, offering a rare glimpse into Morricone’s creative process at the height of his artistic maturity. It represents the most complete and philologically accurate version of this legendary score ever published.
The soundtrack to Il Clan dei Siciliani is one of the most emblematic works in Morricone’s career, amplifying the tense and refined atmosphere of Verneuil’s film starring Jean Gabin, Alain Delon and Lino Ventura. The encounter between French cinema and Italian musical sensibility results in a work rich in emotional depth, exploring themes of honour, deception and guilt.
The main theme, Il Clan dei Siciliani, has become one of Morricone’s most recognisable compositions, with its clear melody, dramatic structure and orchestral arrangement blending melancholy and sophistication. Other notable tracks include Snack Bar, evoking an urban, nervy tone with subtle rhythms and jazz-inflected colours; Mostra dei gioielli, built on ostinatos and intricate orchestral layers; Tema per Le Goff, which explores a more intimate, reflective mood; and Tema per Nazzari e Delon, a brief yet striking musical dialogue alternating tension and lyricism.
The release is part of Archivio Segreto, a new series of physical editions by CAM Sugar designed to present composers’ works in their most complete form, enriched with unreleased material and session elements. Il Clan dei Siciliani stands as a pivotal score in Morricone’s career and in the history of European film music.
CAM Sugar will also honour Ennio Morricone during SLAM Festival – the International Film Music Festival – held at Triennale Milano. Audiences will be able to rediscover some of his most iconic compositions during the Morricone Segreto event with Andrea Fabrizii, Mary Ramos and Holly Adams, followed by the tribute concert Omaggio a Morricone by pianist Enrico Pieranunzi and a talk featuring Oscar winner Nicola Piovani and Walter Veltroni.
CAM Sugar holds the world’s largest catalogue of Italian film soundtracks, with over 2,500 original titles including La dolce vita, Amarcord, 8 1/2, Il Gattopardo and Il postino. Its music continues to be appreciated today by filmmakers such as Quentin Tarantino, Martin Scorsese and Wes Anderson, as well as sampled by contemporary artists including Drake, Tyler, The Creator and James Blake.
