Former Lamb of God drummer Chris Adler has shared his perspective on why he believes he was dismissed from the band in 2019, attributing it to a combination of health issues and jealousy from his former bandmates.
In a recent episode of Loaded Radio, Adler revealed that he was diagnosed with musician's focal dystonia, a neurological condition that affects specific muscles during repetitive movements. He said the condition impacted his right foot, which made it difficult for him to perform the rapid double-bass footwork required in Lamb of God’s music.
Adler explained that the disorder caused involuntary movements, describing how his foot would unexpectedly shoot to the side or backward instead of depressing the pedal as intended. He compared the condition to what others in physically demanding professions experience, such as golfers, quarterbacks, and classical musicians, who repeat the same motions for many years.
The drummer noted that he was diagnosed with dystonia around the end of 2016, at the same time he was also working with Megadeth. He chose to keep the condition private at the time to avoid damaging his career.
Adler also mentioned that he has undergone significant efforts to recover and manage the condition.
While he did not accuse anyone directly, he suggested that his health struggle and his high-profile collaboration outside of Lamb of God may have contributed to tension within the band, ultimately leading to his departure.
