With upwards of 15 members at any given time, it can be difficult to discern who is actually contributing what to the overall sound. While this may work for some listeners, for me it just feels like a messy and disjointed performance with no clear direction or intention. This is further exacerbated by the fact that many of the members come and go, making it difficult to even keep track of who is in the band at any given time.
Another problem I have with Broken Social Scene is the often muddled and confusing nature of their compositions.
