3 Great Apps to Learn to Play a Musical Instrument (aka I want to be a musician in the indie rock scene)

Have you ever wanted to learn how to play an instrument, but it seems like there’s no time in the day? Between responsibilities, children, and everything your life demands, maybe it seems like dabbling in the musical arts isn’t on the cards. But as an adult learner, it’s more than possible for you to quickly, effectively, and astutely pick up an instrument — and all you need is a smartphone, a popsocket stand and the motivation to create and then play the music that you know is in your heart.

With this in mind, Staimusic invites you to take a closer look at some of the apps you can use to learn (and even help you record!) your favorite instrument.

iOS: GarageBand
If you have an iPhone, you have a few options. GarageBand is one of the most highly celebrated apps you can get on iOS. In fact, it comes pre-installed on most iPhones and has been around for quite a few years. The app is highly customizable and allows you to plug your equipment in and record straight from the app. It also comes with useful features like synth tools and music effects you can layer over recordings. There is a learning feature, as well, which includes more than 40 different lessons for beginners of piano or guitar (that’s you!).GarageBand has been used by some of the most popular recording artists, including Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy, Rihanna, and Duran Duran, among others. These artists have even sometimes used the app’s virtual instruments instead of physical ones on their albums!
