After The Burial: A Look into the Band's Musical Journey
If you're a metalhead or just someone who enjoys heavy music, then you might have already heard of After The Burial. This Minnesota-based band has been around for over a decade and has been making waves in the metalcore scene with their distinct sound. But who are these guys, and what makes their music stand out? In this article, we'll take a closer look at After The Burial's musical biography, discuss their genre, their best songs, and some of their most famous concerts.
After The Burial was formed in 2004 and initially consisted of guitarists Justin Lowe and Trent Hafdahl, bassist Lerichard Foral, and drummer Dan Carle. The band's name comes from a six-string guitar technique used by Lowe, where he would play harmonics after burying his fingers on the fretboard. After several lineup changes, the band solidified with the addition of Anthony Notarmaso on vocals and Adrian Oropeza on bass.
The band's music is a fusion of various metal subgenres, mainly metalcore, progressive metal, and djent. But what sets them apart is their use of seven and eight-string guitars, intricate rhythms, and aggressive breakdowns combined with melodic and atmospheric passages. Their sound is heavily influenced by bands such as Meshuggah, The Dillinger Escape Plan, and Between The Buried And Me, but they've managed to create their unique style.
Some of the band's best songs include Lost in the Static, Behold the Crown, A Wolf Amongst Ravens, and In Flux. These songs showcase the band's technical prowess with their complex guitar riffs, crushing breakdowns, and dynamic shifts in tempo and intensity. Notarmaso's vocals are also a standout feature, ranging from guttural screams to clean singing, adding more depth and emotions to the songs.
After The Burial has toured extensively throughout their career, playing in various international festivals such as Download Festival and Summer Slaughter Tour. But one of their most famous concerts happened in 2017, where they headlined the Summer Slaughter Tour alongside bands like The Black Dahlia Murder and Dying Fetus. The tour was in support of their album, Dig Deep, and their performance was praised for its energy and technicality.
However, the band faced a significant setback in 2015 when Lowe tragically passed away. Lowe was an essential member of the band and a significant influence on their sound. But, the band continued the tour despite the grief and has since released two more albums in honor of Lowe's legacy. Though the incident was a tragic one, After The Burial still managed to thrive and continue to create music that resonates with their fans.
After The Burial is undoubtedly one of the most exciting bands in the metalcore scene today. Their unique sound and technical ability have garnered them a loyal following, and their music continues to inspire listeners. Despite setbacks, the band has shown great resilience, and their music will undoubtedly continue to carve their place in the metal scene. So, if you haven't yet, dive into After The Burial's discography, and you won't be disappointed.
